ANOKA, Minn. (AP) - The former police chief in Robbinsdale is charged with a misdemeanor following his arrest in a prostitution sting in Coon Rapids.

Steven D. Smith was charged Monday in Anoka County. He was one of 10 people arrested Feb. 20 on prostitution charges.

A message left with the man believed to be his attorney was not immediately returned Monday. A message left at the home of a Steven Smith wasn’t returned.

Robbinsdale officials didn’t learn of Smith’s arrest until Saturday when he resigned.

The Star Tribune reports (https://strib.mn/1mr0HPy ) Coon Rapids police didn’t know they arrested the chief until last week, when an officer recognized Smith’s mug shot. Coon Rapids Capt. John Hattstrom said no one told Robbinsdale officials because authorities typically don’t notify employers when someone is arrested.
