JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) - Charges have been dropped against the University of Jamestown’s dean of students after he was accused last month of assaulting his wife.

Forty-four-year-old Gary Van Zinderen was arrested and charged with misdemeanor simple assault in late February after his wife alleged that he had bruised her thigh with a suitcase.

An attorney for Van Zinderen confirmed the charges were dropped last week. He said the prosecution didn’t have significant evidence that any assault had taken place.

The attorney says Van Zinderen has returned to his job at the university. Van Zinderen had taken a leave of absence.
