ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) - The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about recurring computer and telephone scams.

Sheriff Rich Haskell says that the first scam involves bogus emails that purport to be from the FBI. The message tells the recipient that they’ve won a large sum of money in an international lottery and asks them to send money to cover deposit fees or shipping fees.

Haskell says victims will lose any money they send in to cover fees.

The second scam involves telephone calls purporting to be from computer companies. The caller claims the company has been monitoring the victim’s computer and wants to help to make needed repairs and modifications.

Haskell says victims who cooperate can find themselves downloading damaging files onto their computers and may reveal personal and financial information.
