BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont lone U.S. Rep. Peter Welch is going to be hearing from some of the state’s transportation leaders on public transit and on priorities for alternative transportation.

On Monday, Welch is going to be meeting at the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation offices in Burlington with Lt. Gov. Phil Scott, the chairs of the Senate and House transportation committees and Transportation Secretary Brian Searles.

Leaders from transit, bike, pedestrian, electric vehicle and regional planning organizations also are attending.

Welch is going to be asking if the officials think the federal Transportation Alternatives program has been successful in Vermont and what federal policies might be changed in order to support alternative transportation methods.
