RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County School District police officials say they would like to have one officer assigned to each middle school.
The Reno Gazette-Journal (https://on.rgj.com/1iUTSD1 ) reports the funding request would require $1.3 million.
District finance officials say about $800,000 would be used for school safety and to fund eight officers.
The district also would need to purchase seven vehicles.
The recommendation follows the fatal shooting last fall of a popular math teacher at Sparks Middle School and the 2006 shooting at Pine Middle School that wounded two students.
The funding request comes as school district trustees begin reviewing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
