ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey man accused of killing and dismembering his girlfriend has been indicted on murder charges.

Union County prosecutors say 44-year-old Matthew Ballister III also faces charges of burglary, desecrating human remains, hindering apprehension, making terroristic threats and weapons offenses in the indictment made public Wednesday. He remains jailed on $5.25 million bail.

Ballister is charged in the death of April Wyckoff, a 43-year-old Cranford resident who authorities believe was killed in Ballister’s Union Township home last October. Human remains found several days later along the Passaic River in Newark were identified as belonging to Wyckoff.

Authorities have said Wyckoff was killed by blunt force trauma. But a motive for the slaying has not been disclosed, and authorities continue looking for additional remains.
