MACOMB, Ill. (AP) - A presentation on sustainable farming will be part of a slimmed down environmental meeting at Western Illinois University on April 1.

The WIU Environmental Sustainability Lite Conference will be hosted by the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs. It is a companion to the annual Environmental Summit in the fall.

The conference begins with a presentation by Terra Brockman. She is founder of The Land Connection, an educational not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving farmland for sustainable farming. It also matches farmers with land, trains new farmers and connects consumers with local producers.

Brockman will attend an afternoon reception and make another presentation in the evening.

Rural Affairs Institute assistant director Timothy Collins says April was chosen for the new event because it’s when Earth Day is celebrated.
