BOSTON (AP) - Boston Mayor Martin Walsh says the city doesn’t need the state gambling commission to rule whether or not it should be considered a host community for casino proposals in neighboring communities.

The city declared last week that under gambling laws it is a host community to a Wynn Resorts casino plan in Everett and a Mohegan Sun casino proposal at Suffolk Downs horse track in Revere, and Boston residents should have a say.

The commission planned a formal hearing to review Boston’s assertions.

A lawyer for the city tells The Boston Globe (https://b.globe.com/1jye1BG ) there is a legal question concerning whether the commission has jurisdiction to decide Boston’s host community status.

The commission says the casino law gives them “clear and broad authority to make the necessary decisions” on all gambling matters.
