BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Colchester police officer is free after he pleaded not guilty in Vermont Superior Court to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Thirty-six-year-old Officer Jeremy Wyskiel entered the plea Thursday in court in Burlington.

He was released on conditions that included not possessing firearms and that he undergo an alcohol risk assessment.

Early Tuesday, Vermont State Police were asked by Colchester police to investigate a suspected driving under the influence case after it was determined that a car that had been stopped on U.S. Route 7 for erratic operation was being driven by a local police officer.

Wyskiel is on paid administrative leave from his job.

He has worked as a Colchester officer since September 2008.
