PHOENIX (AP) - State transportation officials have finalized an agreement with a contractor to do preliminary work on a buckled highway in northern Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says Tempe-based will FNF Construction, Inc. has been picked to work with a design team on a 150-foot section of pavement on U.S. 89 south of Page.

ADOT says FNF will do pre-construction services such as designing access roads that will be needed on-site when construction begins this summer.

ADOT recently obtained the environmental and utility clearances needed to use federal funds for the repair project.

Motorists have been using an alternative roadway, labeled US 89T, between The Gap and Page since August.

But transportation officials say travel between Bitter Springs and Page continues to be a hardship.
