PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Plans to move a state probation and parole office to another location in Providence have turned more contentious after a report that three of four proposed sites are near schools and day care centers.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1dzpbDn ) that the sites being so close to schools and day cares violates conditions of the bidding process set by the state Department of Administration.

Bidders for the probation and parole office move are proposing sites near Classical High School, Dr. Jorge Alvarez High School and day care centers. The proposals have sparked criticism by city residents and officials.

State Director of Administration Richard Licht says he wasn’t aware the sites are near schools and day cares. He says officials will tour the locations before making recommendations to the state Properties Committee.
