ELEANOR, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia career and technical education students will show off their skills for a chance to qualify for a national event.

About 650 students are signed up for the two-day state-level competition starting Friday night at the Putnam Career & Technical Center in Eleanor.

The students will compete in 55 categories. Among them are automotive services, commercial baking, welding, first aid, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning system maintenance.

The national SkillsUSA leadership conference will be held in Kansas City, Mo., in late June.
