ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The Alaska Zoo says it will join participants around the world Saturday night to celebrate Earth Hour.

The zoo will turn off lights for one hour for the global event, which the zoo says is expected to be the largest environmental event in history.

Activities get underway at 8 p.m. at the zoo.

Admission is free but the zoo is asking for donations to help pay for Arctic animal conservation education and future projects.

The zoo is asking participants to bring beeswax or soy candles. They can listen to a presentation on Earth Hour and take a candlelight walk through the zoo.

The event will conclude at 10 p.m.
