CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - An inmate at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City has died.

State Department of Corrections officials say 53-year-old Carlos Ortiz died Thursday after being taken to the prison’s medical facility for treatment of a chronic medical condition.

The Carson City coroner’s office responded to the facility, and an autopsy will be conducted.

Ortiz had been incarcerated at the prison since May 2008 following a conviction for first-degree murder and kidnapping in Clark County. He was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison with possible parole.
