LYONS, Colo. (AP) - The women’s basketball team is part of a group of about 50 Regis University students and staff helping clean up this town of 2,000 that was hard hit by flooding at the end of last summer.

University spokeswoman Cindy Matthews said Saturday some work that had to be put on hold during the winter can now be undertaken. She says the group from Regis is among several organizations helping Lyons homeowners clean up their yards and sort through damaged belongings as part of a day of service to commemorate the life of the late union organizer Cesar Chavez.

The September floods killed nine people, destroyed 2,000 homes and damaged nearly 18,000 others, and washed away hundreds of miles of road along the Front Range and on the eastern plains.
