BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Forecasters say there’s a chance of freezing rain and possible snow flurries across portions of north Alabama, but icy conditions aren’t expected to linger past rush hour.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a winter weather advisory for areas near the Tennessee state line including Florence, Muscle Shoals, Athens and Huntsville. A freezing rain advisory is in effect for portions of northwest Alabama including Vernon and Hamilton.

Forecasters say little to no accumulation is expected, but ice could form on bridges and overpasses in affected areas. Freezing conditions are forecast to pass by 9 a.m. central time.

The icy weather comes as another winter storm is expected to dump up to a foot of snow on portions of the U.S. East Coast.
