FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Jimmy Dykes has been named the eighth head women’s basketball coach at the University of Arkansas.

Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long made the announcement on Sunday. Long says Dykes‘ experience working with some of the best coaches in the business, combined with his ability to teach the game of basketball, made him the clear choice to be the head women’s basketball coach.

In his collegiate career, Dykes has made stops at Arkansas, Sacramento State University, Appalachian State University, the University of Kentucky, the University of Arkansas-Little Rock and Oklahoma State University. Dykes‘ experience includes more than 950 games called and more than 3,000 practices observed at all levels of college and professional basketball.

Dykes also spent two seasons as a college scout for the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics.
