LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police say a man was shot outside a Hollywood nightclub as it was closing and later died.

Police Sgt. Chuck Slater tells City News Service that someone got out of a car shortly after the closing of Premiere Supper Club on Las Palmas just north of Hollywood Boulevard early Sunday morning and shot a 38-year-old man in the chest.

Sgt. David Legaspi tells the Los Angeles Times that more than 100 people had spilled into the intersection and were surrounding the bleeding victim when police arrived soon after.

The victim later died at a hospital.

Legaspi says investigators determined the shooting stemmed from a gang rivalry, and they were looking for a group of three or four men in a four-door black sedan.
