WATERBURY CENTER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s Green Mountain Club, which maintains the Long Trail, has a new executive director.

Michael DeBonis will take over the position in mid-May.

Club officials say former executive director Will Wiquist left in November to pursue other professional challenges.

DeBonis is currently the director of the Forest Guild, a national nonprofit forestry organization, based in Sante Fe, N.M.

He is also a native Vermonter and member of the Green Mountain Club.

GMC says DeBonis has a bachelor’s degree in natural resource management from Johnson State College and a master’s degree in forestry from Yale University.

The Green Mountain Club is a nonprofit group that maintains the 272-mile Long Trail that runs the length of Vermont.
