FARMINGTON, Mo. (AP) - Two weeks after two strangers showed up out of nowhere to pull a girl from an overturned car in a ravine, the family has finally had the chance to say thank you.

The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Mo. (https://bit.ly/1pydH59 ) reports that Kimberly Kingman and her family from St. Louis County were traveling through St. Francois County in southeast Missouri on March 16 when the car she was driving slid on ice during a snowstorm.

Kimberly Kingman, her husband and their 12-year-old son got out, but 13-year-old Amelia Kingman was stuck. Two strangers showed up and pulled the girl to safety. All four family members have recovered.

Last week, Kingman was put in touch with the rescuers. She sent an email thanking Zachary Mead and Zachary Weaver, two soldiers who just happened to be in a stranded car near the accident scene.

Mead and Weaver are with the Army’s 705th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Co. based in Fort Polk, La. They were en route to Louisiana when Weaver’s car broke down during the storm. That’s when they saw the accident and rushed to help.

Kimberly Kingman, 50, wrote to Mead, “I have thought many times of how you and your friend just appeared as if you were waiting for us. I remember seeing a dark car at the side of the road right before I lost control. Then you both were there.”

Mead’s response? “Never again will I be upset when I’m stranded, broke down, or in any other predicament,” he wrote back. “You never know why God puts you in a situation.”

One of the family’s two dogs, along for the ride during the spring break trip to Arkansas, ran away following the accident. About a week later the dog showed up at a home not far from the accident site. The homeowner recognized the animal from a photo that had been distributed, and the dog was reunited with the family.
