BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Schools and universities across North Dakota are closing and no travel is advised in many areas because of a spring snow storm.

The closings include the University of North Dakota, North Dakota State, Dickinson State, Lake Region State, Bismarck State and the University of Mary.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for much of North Dakota. Forecasters say many areas could get a foot of snow or more, with winds gusting up to 50 mph.

The heaviest snow is expected in eastern North Dakota, which could get us much as 20 inches. Grand Forks Air Force Base is requiring only essential personnel to report for duty.

The state Agriculture Department and the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association are urging ranchers to get their livestock into sheltered areas.
