BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police and transit officials are probing the death of a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a bus in downtown Birmingham.

The directors of the Horizons School, which specializes in teaching independent living skills to special needs adults, released a statement Tuesday saying that the victim was a female student.

The woman’s identity hasn’t been released yet, but school administrators say her family has been notified. The school enrolls students between the ages of 18 and 26.

Authorities have said the woman was struck by a MAX DART bus that looks like a trolley and was pinned beneath the bus after she was hit.
