DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Authorities are investigating the cause of a fuel leak near a Des Moines hospital.

The Des Moines Fire Department says the leak was reported Wednesday morning at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. No injuries were reported and hospital activities continued as normal.

Officials say a tanker truck was releasing jet fuel into an underground storage tank at the hospital when fuel began to overflow from the hospital tank.

Firefighters and a hazmat crew responded and isolated the area from foot and vehicle traffic. They used absorbent material to trap the fuel and tested the air for hazardous conditions.

No fuel was discharged into any waterways. City officials and a private contractor will remove the fuel and work with the state Department of Natural Resources on cleanup efforts.
