COVERT, N.Y. (AP) - A 67-year-old man is dead and three others are injured after a rollover crash that Seneca County Sheriff’s deputies say was caused by the driver falling asleep.

Deputies tell media outlets that 67-year-old Willy C. Johnson of the Wayne County town of Newark was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 7:25 a.m. Thursday. It happened on Route 96 in Covert, 40 miles southwest of Syracuse.

Deputies say the driver, 49-year-old Bernice Hammonds of Dundee, Fla., veered off the road after she fell asleep at the wheel. The car hit a ditch, became airborne and rolled over.

Deputies say Hammonds, 55-year-old Marshall Watson and 53-year-old James Parker of Ovid were taken to hospitals. Their condition hasn’t been released.
