GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Cole Messerschmidt’s 3-pointer with 16 seconds to play lifted Beulah to a 50-48 win over New Town Friday in the consolation round at the North Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.

Messerschmidt’s 10th 3-pointer of the tournament gave the Miners (20-6), who trailed by as many as 15 points, their first lead since 28-27. He finished with 14 points.

Casey Walcker single-handedly kept Beulah in the game after half. After going 1-for-5 from the first in the first half, Walcker scored all of Beulah’s 19 points in the third quarter and finished with 24 points.

The Eagles led 48-46 when Messerschmidt scored from the wing. Luke Blood added one free throw with a second left and New Town(20-4) didn’t really get a shot at the tie or win.
