GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Greenville County sheriff’s deputies have obtained warrants charging a Greenville man with killing his former teacher at a motel earlier this week.

The warrants accuse 21-year-old Darrin Terrell Eskew of strangling 39-year-old Laurie Patton of Travelers Rest, setting her on fire and stealing her car.

Patton’s body was found in a Greenville motel early Monday.

Eskew was arrested in Banks County, Ga., later Monday on unrelated charges following a traffic stop. The Greenville warrants accuse Eskew of murder, third-degree arson and grand larceny.

He was still being held in Georgia late Thursday. Greenville Deputy Drew Pinciaro says officials are working to get Eskew returned to South Carolina to face the charges.

Pinciaro said investigators learned that the special education teacher at Berea Middle School once taught Eskew.
