ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Rapides Parish public schools students can expect 20 extra minutes of class time for a few more weeks this spring, thanks to another ice day.

The Town Talk reports (https://townta.lk/1lDey4Z ) the district will add 20 minutes to the school day from April 9 through May 13. The extra time will make up 380 instructional minutes lost due to ice and freezing temperatures.

Superintendent Nason Authement says the School Board’s action Wednesday authorized an extension to an earlier extension.

To make up the lost time, students had classes scheduled Monday and Tuesday - scheduled holidays for Mardi Gras - and were to have 20 extra minutes added to each school day from Feb. 24 through April 8. The board approved adding the latest extension when school was canceled Tuesday.
