PITTSBURGH (AP) - Authorities say a teenage girl struck by a dump truck near Pittsburgh in western Pennsylvania has died.

Authorities say the girl was flown to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh after the 3 p.m. Thursday accident in McKeesport.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said 14-year-old Alyson Higdon of McKeesport died shortly before 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Lt. Andrew Schurman of the Allegheny police department said the girl was following other students and crossing a street, and her view of the truck may have been obstructed by a school bus. Officials said the truck driver has cooperated with authorities.

McKeesport Area School District spokeswoman Kristen Giran said administrators went to the hospital with friends and family of the eighth-grader.

She said counseling will be available Friday for students.
