LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - McKenzie Brown scored 36 points, matched a Class B tournament record with 15 free throws, and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead defending champion Grand Island Northwest to a 66-58 victory over Lincoln Pius X in the state final Saturday.

The Vikings (25-2), who won their last nine games, got 16 points and 12 rebounds from Katelyn Placke.

Brown made 15 of 18 free throws, Placke hit 11 of 12 and Northwest finished 30 of 36 from the line.

Nebraska recruit Maddie Simon had 27 points and Kennedy Sander had 21 for the Thunderbolts (21-3), who were seeking their first championship since 1992.

Kennadi Keezer’s jumper in the middle of the first quarter gave the Vikings the lead, and they never trailed again.

Pius outshot Northwest from the field and on 3-pointers but couldn’t overcome a 30-8 difference at the free-throw line.
