AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Mumford has won the Class 1A Division 1 boys state championship by defeating Muenster 64-57.

After coming in second the past two seasons, Mumford (39-1) took the title on Saturday in Austin, led by game MVP LaKendric Hyson, who scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

The win was Mumford’s 37th straight victory this season.

Mumford trailed 17-9 after one quarter but staged a 22-11 scoring run in the second quarter, to take a 31-28 halftime lead. The Mustangs extended the lead to 46-38 after three quarters.

Muenster (28-3) outrebounded Mumford 48-33 but the fast paced Mumford team drove the lane and converted 18 of 26 foul shots while Muenster was seven for seven from the charity stripe.



Lyndon Cook led Muenster with 17 points with 26 rebounds.
