LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Kaila Anderson scored 17 points and Terriel Ross had a double-double as University used a balanced attack to wear down Ville Platte and claim the Class 3A state championship 63-56 on Saturday.

University (31-6) blew a close game open in the second half, stretching a three-point halftime lead to 12 in the third quarter.

Ville Platte (31-3) cut the deficit to four with 33 seconds left after scoring five straight points, but missed a 3-pointer that would have cut lead to one with 27 seconds left.

Ross added 12 points and 12 rebounds for University and Destiny Ephrom scored 11 and grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench.

Breanna Pete led Ville Platte with 15 points. Shalinda Thomas added 12.

Ville Platte closed the first quarter with a 10-0 run to take a 16-11 lead. University returned the favor, scoring 10 straight to end the second with a 29-26 lead.
