ST. LOUIS (AP) - Two St. Louis-area men face armed robbery charges after a reported holdup at a McDonald’s restaurant led to a police shooting of one of the suspects.
City prosecutors say one of the suspected robbers was shot outside the north St. Louis fast-food restaurant when he refused an officer’s command to drop his gun on Wednesday night.
Twenty-one-year-old Deonte Phillips was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition and charged Thursday with robbery, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest.
Another officer attempted to stop the suspected getaway driver, who sped away and then crashed his car near Calvary Cemetery.
Twenty-two-year-old Johnny Phillips of Jennings was charged with robbery, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. Both are in custody on $500,000, cash-only bonds.
