PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit that challenged Rhode Island’s child-welfare system.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1lCi3rd ) Judge Mary Lisi issued a 108-page decision Wednesday after six years of litigation and a 16-day trial.

The New York-based advocacy group Children’s Rights filed suit in 2007, accusing the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families of failing to meet the constitutional rights of foster children.

The judge found no evidence that problems with DCYF caused any harm to the two named plaintiffs in the case. She also questioned claims that the state had not properly adjusted reimbursement rates to properly cover the food, clothing, and other costs associated with caring for foster children.

A lawyer for Children’s Rights said it is considering an appeal.
