SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A man has been charged with attacking his girlfriend’s son in South Charleston.

A criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court says 42-year-old Eric Richmond was arrested Saturday and charged with child abuse with risk of serious injury and malicious wounding.

Officers say Richmond allegedly choked the child after he had been suspended from school and struck the child with a belt on his back and legs.

Media outlets report the child and his father later reported the incident to the South Charleston police department.

Richmond was being held in the South Central Regional Jail on $10,000 bond. Jail records didn’t indicate whether he has an attorney.
