BUCKATUNNA, Miss. (AP) - Residents are lobbying the Mississippi Department of Transportation for a traffic signal at Buckatunna’s (buck-uh-TUNUH’) main intersection on U.S. 45.

Marcia Clingan, who has worked at a convenience store at the intersection for 17 years, tells WDAM-TV ( https://bit.ly/1mJjPFF) the crossroads is “extremely dangerous.”

Two months ago, a car accident claimed the life of an 18-year-old at the intersection, where the four-lane highway intersects roads to Chicora, Mississippi, and Millry, Alabama. Residents say they’ve lobbied for traffic lights for years, but instead got a blinking red light over a stop sign.

MDOT’s Kelly Castleberry says the blinking light is only temporary, and that the state is designing a traffic light to be installed at the intersection. He says he is unsure about when the traffic light will be built.
