NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities say a man has been wounded after pointing a gun at a police lieutenant and refusing an order to drop it.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday in the west-central area of the Bronx.

Authorities say an anti-crime team had gone to investigate after hearing gunfire near the intersection of East 188th Street and Marion Avenue.

The NYPD says the lieutenant fired five times during the encounter.

The suspect was hit in the ankle.

Police say they recovered the 23-year-old man’s revolver.
