JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - The westbound extension of the New Jersey Turnpike has reopened in Jersey City after crews fixed a hole in the roadway.
The state Department of Transportation says a one-foot-diameter hole was discovered Tuesday morning not far from the Holland Tunnel on the upgrade where vehicles enter the Newark bay extension of the Turnpike.
A DOT spokesman said the hole required crews to replace a 7-by-12-foot bridge deck panel.
The work was supposed to have taken until Wednesday morning. But New Jersey state police say the road reopened before 6 p.m.
