OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - A 7-year-old Oakland girl who went missing overnight has been found safe.

Oakland police Lt. Kevin Wiley says the girl was brought to a police substation around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday by a person who found her inside a church in east Oakland the previous day.

The girl had apparently left her backyard on Monday and wandered into the church, where she was discovered by a church member. Investigators plan to talk to the girl about what happened, but say she appeared unharmed.

The girl was reported safe about an hour after her mother made an emotional plea for her return.

The mom says she was taking a nap when her daughter disappeared.
