MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) - A Marshalltown man is offering reward money in exchange for the return of a bright yellow smiley face sign that briefly donned his front yard.

The Times-Republican reports (https://bit.ly/1g3T4wP ) Lonnie Hogeland says he’ll give $500 for information that leads to the sign’s return. The sign is 3 feet in diameter and sits on a 7-foot stem. He discovered it was missing Monday.

Hogeland, who owns a towing company, uses a smiley face in his business logo. He put the sign on his front yard a few days ago as an extension of his moniker around the community as the “smiley face guy.”

Hogeland says he’s frustrated by the theft. He says various lawn ornaments have been stolen from his yard over the years.
