WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A New Castle man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for killing his uncle while, prosecutors say, the nephew was high on crack cocaine.

Fifty-six-year-old Joseph Verucci was sentenced Tuesday in New Castle County Superior Court. He had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 74-year-old Thomas Verucci.

Prosecutors say police went to the Veruccis’ home in January 2012 and found Thomas Verucci, who had been beaten and stabbed. He died at a hospital.
