CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a man has shot and killed a man who tried to rob him.

Police say 22-year-old Darlanski Lamar Sherrill died Monday night a short time after an alleged robbery in northwest Charlotte.

Police were called around 9 p.m. by a man who said he was in his yard when he was confronted by an armed man who forced him inside and tried to rob him. The victim said the suspect beat him with the gun. The victim also told police he was able to shoot his attacker.

A short time later, another officer found a man about eight miles away driving erratically who had been shot.

Sherrill was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where he died.

Prosecutors will decide whether to file charges in Sherrill’s death.
