COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Police say a central Ohio homeowner fatally shot one of the intruders who broke into his garage.

The 69-year-old man and his 58-year-old wife went to the detached garage at their south Columbus home to investigate an alarm early Monday.

Their daughter tells The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1jn3T80 ) that two intruders then beat the couple, and her father, who had armed himself, shot one of them in the chest. The other one ran away.

Police said the shot intruder, 21-year-old Rayley Kroah, died later at a hospital.

Detectives didn’t name the couple. No charges have been filed, but the county prosecutor’s office will review the shooting.

Their daughter says it was the second time in a week that someone broke into the garage.
