PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - State Rep. Christine Erickson has resigned from her seat in the South Dakota House of Representatives to take on a position on the Sioux Falls City Council.

Her resignation is effective May 20. The Republican from Sioux Falls was elected to an at-large seat on city council during April’s municipal elections.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard will appoint the person who will fill the vacancy in the state’s House. Daugaard’s office of is asking the public to nominate candidates to the position.

Erickson represents District 11. It includes areas of western Sioux Falls near Roosevelt High School and rural areas to the west of the city.
