PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Burglars broke into the home of Paterson’s next mayor while he celebrated his victory on Election Night.

Police are not sure if the burglars knew they were targeting Joey Torres or whether the Tuesday night heist was just a coincidence.

The mayor-elect tells The Record (https://bit.ly/1g87ITZ ) newspaper the burglars got into his house through a side window and made off with some sentimental items belonging to his wife.

Torres says he doesn’t want to be treated any differently than anyone else who had a burglary.

Mayor Jeffery Jones’ home was burglarized in 2001 and his Marine Corps ring was stolen.
