MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A group formed after the violent death of a 2-year-old in Poultney is calling for the ouster of two top state officials.

The group Justice for Dezirae is calling for Gov. Peter Shumlin to ask for the resignations of David Yacavone, commissioner of the Department for Children and Families, and Douglas Racine, secretary of the Human Services Agency, which oversees Yacavone’s department.

The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1otuubm) quotes the group as saying on its Facebook page that the two officials have failed at the job they have been hired and entrusted to do.

The state also is investigating the death of 15-month-old Peighton Geraw of Winooski, who died less than an hour after a state social worker visited April 4 and saw bruises on the child’s neck.
