PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) - The Columbia County sheriff’s office has reopened an investigation into a cold-case homicide.
The decomposed body of a woman was found along a rural road in the Township of Caledonia in 1982. She died of blunt-force trauma to the head.
Authorities were not able to identify the remains. She was buried in 1987 as a Jane Doe.
Detectives exhumed her body last month. Investigators are working with the FBI Crime Laboratory to compare her DNA against others in a missing persons index.
The victim is described as a Caucasian woman standing 5-foot-5 ½ inches to 5-foot-6 ½ inches tall, ranging in age from 45 to 60s. She probably had given birth.
