TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A Claremore attorney and state senator has been named president of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant.
The Tulsa World reports (https://bit.ly/S4vZzx ) that Sean Burrage was named on Thursday as the 20th president of the university. He will replace Larry Minks, who announced April 1 that he will step down effective July 1.
Burrage, the Democratic floor leader in the Senate, announced in November that he would not seek a third four-year term.
Burrage was elected to the state Senate in 2006, representing Mayes and Rogers counties. In 2011, he was elected Democratic floor leader after serving as assistant Democratic leader for the 52nd Oklahoma Legislature.
Minks will remain at Southeastern as president emeritus and as a distinguished university professor of leadership. He has served as president for five years.
