PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - A Florida Panhandle man’s wife and daughter have taken plea deals for their parts in the man’s murder.
As part of a deal with Bay County prosecutors, 63-year-old Lottie Jean Moore and 27-year-old Mary Elizabeth Clanton pleaded no contest Monday to being accessories after the fact to first-degree murder. Moore received seven years in prison, while Clanton received three.
Clanton’s husband, 33-year-old David Clanton, is scheduled to be tried for first-degree murder in October.
Authorities say David Clanton strangled 69-year-old Arthur Moore while he slept in September 2013 and then buried his body in the woods with his wife’s help.
The Panama City News Herald (https://goo.gl/VMXlrw) reports that Mary Elizabeth Clanton has described her father as hateful and verbally abusive to Lottie Moore, who gave David Clanton the rope to strangle her husband.
