ISLAND HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) - Aggravated assault charges have been filed against a southern New Jersey man who allegedly entered his ex-girlfriend’s home and attacked her new boyfriend with a knife.

Island Heights police tell the Asbury Park Press (https://on.app.com/1gliRkh) that Frederick Pisciotti of Toms River also faces burglary and eluding charges.

Authorities say the attack occurred Sunday night, but the victim and Pisciotti had left the home before police arrived. Pisciotti’s car was later found crashed, so authorities contacted his family and asked them to notify them if he returned home.

The victim, who suffered a 5-inch gash to his abdomen, was flown to a hospital. Authorities say he remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Pisciotti was freed Tuesday after posting $100,000 bail. A telephone number for him could not be located Wednesday.
