EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Jurors have convicted a Springfield, Oregon, man of murder in the death of his ex-fiancee, who was hit in the head four times with an aluminum baseball bat as she slept.
Robert Allen Cromwell was convicted Tuesday in the Nov. 2 death of 26-year-old Casey Wright.
The Register-Guard reports (https://is.gd/ebQLDO ) that the 33-year-old Cromwell is expected to be sentenced Friday to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
Lane County Circuit Court jurors were told Wright broke off the engagement in mid-October. Cromwell told the court he planned a romantic evening, thinking they could reconcile, but Wright told him she was seeing another man.
In a taped police interview shown to the jury, Cromwell says he “just snapped” when he read messages on Wright’s cellphone from two other men.
